It’s been a really long time since I’ve picked up my clarinet, and I need to rectify that. Back when I started working from home, I thought I’d have “more time” to play. And yet, between health concerns and everything else going on, the truth is, I simply haven’t made the time. And that’s the optimum word–MADE the time. Because we all have the same 24 hours in a day. And this year I’ve spent far too much of my time scrolling social media, doom scrolling they call it. Instead, I could have been playing my clarinet or a thousand other things.
So the good news is that I’m aware of the problem, and I’m thinking about how to fix it. I’ve got my drawer with all my reeds right by my desk. I dusted off my clarinet stand, and on my music stand is the theory book I’d wanted to work through, open to the first exercise. Everything is there, except me.
Sometimes we need a break. And sometimes we need to reassess the role some things play in our lives. The truth is my music has always played a large role in my life, and I feel like if I make room for it again, things will improve. That’s my goal, to make the room for music again and hopefully get back to blogging regularly about it and keeping you updated. We’ll see how things go.
Until then, I’ve missed my music, and I’m sure, it’s missed me.
Keep playing!
