Once a year towards the end of June, the Amateur Radio Relay League, hosts Field Day. This is an international event where ham radio operators across the United States, and the world, try to reach out to as many people, called making contacts, as possible. And I participated in my local club’s event.

While the day was hot and muggy there were scattered storms around us, which no doubt led to bad propagation of signals. (In fact, my husband sent me a couple of texts that day that I never received.) However, I had fun learning about radio sport and running the controls.

We have a small write up with pictures here.

Yesterday I passed my General Exam, so I’m now a General Class ham radio operator. I look forward to getting on the air soon.
